Chhatrasal

VEERCHHATRASAL

Veer Chhatrasal was born to the brave warrior couple of Champat Rai and Lal Kunwar on May 4, 1649,  in the village of Kachar Kachnai now located in the Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh.  Chhatrasal was just 12 years when his parents perished fight against the Mughal Army in 1661. Amidst the forests, the hills, under the shadow of the forest Gods, Chhatrasal was born in conflicted times, amidst cannons, swords and bloodshed.

Like his father Chhatrasal too was devoutly religious. Once when he was just five years old, he went to Shri Ram Temple. There he insisted to play with the idols of Ram and Lakshman thinking that those were kids just like him. It is believed that Lord Shri Ram really appeared and played with him.

When he was about fourteen years old, he came to a garden along with his friends for collecting flowers to offer them to Devi Vindhyawasini. Meanwhile six soldiers of Mughals came there riding on horses.
One of the soldiers asked Chhatrasal, "Where is Vindhyawasini Temple?"
"Why? Would you also wish to worship the Devi?", responded the curious Chhatrasal.
"To hell with Devi. We've come to demolish the temple.", remarked the soldier offensively.
At this the angry Chhatrasal warned him to mind his language and said, "Don't utter like that again or you'll endanger your life."
The soldier started laughing and said, "What the hell will you do? Even my sword is bigger than you. And your Devi.."
He could hardly complete his sentence when Veer Chhatrasal beheaded him as quick as a storm.
The battle had begun. Chhatrasal alone was fighting against the remaining five soldiers. The companions of Chhatrasal ran in panic to bring their swords. But when they came there, they found that Chhatrasal had already killed the soldiers.

Later Chhatrasal fought  against the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, and established his own kingdom in Bundelkhand, becoming the founder of Panna State.
